Who am I?
My name is Nathan Martin Andrew Morris, and I am many things. A proud Union member of IBEW local 48, a tech enthusiast, a life safety specialist, an active member of my community, a brother, a son, an Uncle, a friend, a mentor, a teacher and a bit goofy amongst other things.
My professional career started at Jamba Juice in Cedar Hills Mall, Beaverton, OR, in 2013 as a drink maker while attending night school at PCC. After six months, I decided to drop out of college and took the advice of a great mentor to pursue a career in the electrical field. In 2014, I joined IBEW Local 48 as a material handler, working for QPS, Dynalectric, and Cherry City at job sites including Intel D1X MOD 2, Fred Meyers, and Intel MSB.
After waiting a year to get into the inside apprentice program through Local 48, I applied for the Protective Signaling JATC and was immediately accepted. From 2015 to 2017, I worked at ATS, deploying access control, security, network, CCTV, and inventory management systems in jails, distribution centers, and local government offices. However, my true passion was fire alarm systems. Thanks to a fortunate case of being in the right place at the right time, I joined the union Limited Energy apprenticeship and began learning fire alarm systems at Stoner Electric in 2017. Over the next five years at Stoner, I specialized in fire alarm systems, gaining enough experience to attain my NICET FAS III certification in 2022.
In 2022, I accepted a position at Dynalectric Oregon as an Estimator for Fire, Life Safety & Specialty Systems Project Manager, where I currently work. In my free time, I teach fire alarm code at the NECA/IBEW training center and engage in youth outreach to show the next generation that there are successful career paths beyond college.
Outside of work, I enjoy volunteering. I have been a volunteer at Seattle Seafair for over 20 years as a course boat. I am also a board member at the IBEW and United Worker Federal Credit Union. Before the pandemic, I volunteered at Presents for Partners, a local Christmas charity providing presents for union members in need. Additionally, I have organized car shows and served as a board member of the Gus Miller Chapter of the Electrical Workers Minority Caucus.
